Generative Pathways
ARCH 4020: Spatial Logics & Computation Studio - Spring Semester 2015
Generative Pathways utilizes computational design methods to create a performance structure in the heart of Charlottesville, Virginia. The project uses voronoi diagrams created in grasshopper to generate both the structural and landscape designs. The performance hall structure consists of three levels: a primary performance space on the ground level, cantilevered rooms above which look out onto the primary performance hall, and a secondary, rooftop performance space open to the elements. The cantilevered rooms are divided into public space for visitors and private space for actors and employees.
The surrounding landscape connects the performance hall to the city of Charlottesville. Pathways meander through gardens and open up to small, outdoor recreational spaces. A parking area is seated directly east of the performance structure to allow visitors to enter from 7th Street. Additionally, the pathway connects the performance hall to the Amtrak station to the west.
